Wisconsin
Legislature
What We Do:
The WCA constantly reviews legislative
proposals made by insurance companies and other health care providers that could
affect your practice. We also work to pass laws to protect your practice. Recent
examples include laws that would have eliminated our insurance equality law.
How It Affects You:
State government controls every aspect of a chiropractors
license. If the WCA were not here, there would be no one working to end the prejudice
against chiropractic that still exists. Every year there are attempts to pass
laws that would hurt you economically or limit your right to practice. We are
your insurance policy.
State
Agency Interaction
What We Do:
The WCA attends well over
a hundred meetings per year held by the Department of Workforce Development, the
Insurance Commis-sioner, the Department of Regulation & Licensing, Medicaid,
and other state agencies. We attend those meet-ings to favorably influence any
policy or rule that could affect your practice.
How
It Affects You:
Representing chiropractic interests is a commitment that
is measured in decades. Because chiropractic is a regulated profession, we must
have a strong association. Without our presence, insurance companies and other
health care groups would quickly look for ways to reduce your business opportunities.
National
Issues
What We Do:
We study the colleges, the ACA and
ICA, state associations, and the federal government to learn about changes within
the profession as they occur across the country. We want to do our best to avoid
problems that occur elsewhere and to share positive ideas with you as rapidly
as possible.
How It Affects You:
The WCAs
expertise in CMT coding helped Wisconsin become the first state to fully educate
our mem-bers on the use of CMT codes. The WCA is also a leader in Workers
Compensation and in assessing business trends that affect your practice.

What
will you do when an insurance company...
Refuses to
pay for an exam on the same day as an adjustment...
Arbitrarily ends your
care based on an unfair IME...
Will not pay for more than one therapy on
a day of treatment...
States that they will not pay for full spine x-rays...
Will
not pay for certain modalities...
Does not respond to your claims...
Continuously
loses the records you send them...
Claims the amount you charged was above
their UCR limits...
Wants information on how to conduct a fair IME...
Requests
information on the effectiveness of chiropractic care...
Needs information
on Wisconsin laws and rules...
Insurance
Relations
What We Do:
Every year the WCA writes hundreds
of letters to insurance companies who do not correctly process the claims of our
members. In addition to making sure insurance companies follow the laws, our Clinical
Advisory Committee develops clinical guidelines that help our me
How It Affects You:
When you are a WCA member, you are never alone
in the battle with an insurance company. While we, unfortunately, can not do your
adminstrative work; we will give you and your staff all of the tools necessary
so you can collect your receivables - and avoid the costly expense of write-offs.
Workers
Compensation
What We Do:
Workers compensation laws
change every two years. The WCA serves as a liaison to the Workers Compensation
Advisory Council (WCAC) which is responsible for all of the laws and rules affecting
your right to treat workers compensation patients.
How It Affects You:
For over a decade, the WCAC has consistently looked
for ways to limit the right of an injured worker to choose you as their health
care provider and to limit the reimbursement you receive for your care. Because
of the WCA, we have the best workers compensation laws in the country.
CHIEF
What
We Do:
CHIEF is a conduit by which contributions are made to politicians
who support the chiropractic profession. The WCA monitors the promises made by
politicians and coordinates fund raising activities for those legislators who
regularly support the chiropractic profession.
How
It Affects You:
The profession won a major victory when Wisconsins
insurance equality laws were passed. That, however, was only the beginning of
our legislative battles. Unprofessional inde-pendent medical exams, lien reform,
opening access to HMOs, and protecting workers com-pensation are just
a few examples of the battles that we fight.

Are
You An Associate or a Spouse of a Member?
We
need every chiropractor in the state to be a member of the WCA.
Your
. right to practice is not guaranteed. When the state legislature, Medicare or
insurance companies make decisions affecting your practice, you need a strong
and reliable trade association fighting for your interests. You made a tremendous
personal investment to become a chiropractor. Only the WCA is there to help insure
the value of your practice and protect your license.
Our success can only
continue if every chiropractor carries their fair share of the load.
Business
Program Development
What We Do:
The WCA develops state
of the art business programs for every aspect of your practice. These programs
help you run an efficient office and can substantially increase the productivity
of your staff. They are an invaluable tool for both staff training and practice
profitability.
How It Affects You:
WCA programs
on Medicare, managed care, workers compensation, collections, and CPT coding
have set a standard that has been copied by chiropractic organizations across
the country. Being part of the WCA guarantees that you will be a step ahead in
the efficient and profitable running of your practice.
Community
Relations
What We Do:
The long term success of chiropractic
depends on the ability of our doctors to increase the publics know-ledge
of the profession. Food drives, school education programs, news articles, press
releases, and awareness projects are just some ways in which the WCA supports
its members in their home towns.
How It Affects You:
Chiropractors are part of the fabric which binds a community together.
A chiropractor that gets involved in their community creates relationships that
will benefit them professionally and personally. More importantly, as chiropractors,
we have an obligation to give back to the communities in which we practice.
Member
Communications
What We Do:
Several times each month,
the WCA sends its members information that is vital to their practice. Our commun-ications
are designed to give you a competitive advantage and are loaded with practical
advice on how to improve your profitability, manage your operations, and defend
your clinical decisions.
How It Affects You:
If the WCA did not exist, where would you get your information? The publications
you receive from national organizations rarely discuss the issues that are tackled
by the WCA. Our work is so well respected that many state groups ask for permission
to copy our information for their members.
